Legislation
The Environment Protection Act 1990: Duty of Care Regulations places responsibility for the handling of waste on anyone who produces, imports, transports, stores, recycles or disposes controlled waste.
Controlled waste is a broad definition including any household, industrial and commercial waste. Unauthorised or harmful depositing, treatment or disposal of controlled waste is illegal.
Your responsibility
Not only are you legally responsible for your waste, but you must make sure that the company you use for its collection is legally registered too.
WJ Curley provides all our customers with a legally required Duty of Care Waste Transfer Note as well as providing you with a stain-proof laminated copy of our Waste Carriers Licence, another requirement of the law.
Clear and simple
Trade Waste Officers visit more than 50,000 businesses each year and will request sight of valid documentation. Failure to produce a valid Transfer Note, for example, can lead to a Fixed Penalty Notice of £300.
Our aim is make things simple. We will ensure that your company meets the required waste management regulations, helping you to avoid any unnecessary fines and remaining up-to-date with the law.
